Duck for President
By Doreen Cronin
Illustrated by Betsy Lewin
What happens when Duck grows tired of all the hard work on the farm and decides to hold an election to replace Farmer Brown? He wins of course! Not content to continue working on the farm Duck sets his sights on governor and then on president. While the game of politics is much too obscure for children (and most adults!), Duck for President is an lighthearted and enjoyable introduction to get in the spirit of the democratic process.
Kids will find plenty to laugh at as we follow Duck and his silly antics through his campaigns. Adults will enjoy the subtle references to contemporary politics and find plenty to chuckle at as highlights of recent campaigns are woven into the story.
Betsy Lewin adds to the humor of the book by filling the pages with bold illustrations done in watercolor and black outline and pictorial details that further communicate the silliness of the story. After reading this book with your young reader, we are certain you will want to cast your vote for Duck!
